The Brass Kraken opened its doors on April 1st, 2016, on the Waterfront of Poulsbo, a town built on history, heritage, and community. From the beginning, we knew this was home. Poulsbo’s strong Nordic roots and tight-knit spirit made it the perfect place for a pub designed to feel like an extension of your own living room.
Named after the legendary sea creature of Nordic mythology, the Kraken represents strength, depth, and a little bit of mystery. While the name may be mythic, our purpose is simple and grounded: create a neighborhood gathering place where everyone belongs.
We are proudly bar-forward, featuring a thoughtful selection of local and regional beers, spirits, and craft cocktails. At the same time, our kitchen takes pride in elevated pub fare made largely from scratch. Food that’s comforting, intentional, and meant to be shared.
Community is our foundation. From themed party nights and holiday celebrations to everyday conversations at the bar, The Brass Kraken brings people together. We believe a true pub isn’t just about what’s poured or plated, it’s about how you feel when you walk through the door.

Our Story
Our owners, Frank, James and Johnny are three individuals that have come together with a passion for the restaurant/bar industry to build four different pubs in two different cities.
The Brass Kraken Pub is situated in the charming, historic downtown Poulsbo, nicknamed “Little Norway” while our two sister bars, The Brass Monkey and The Brass Boar’s Den, reside in West Allis, Wisconsin, a lovely suburb of Milwaukee.
Newly opening, Aegir's Public House is also situated right around the corner in downtown Poulsbo. More news to come....!
Our original establishment, The Brass Monkey quickly became the go-to bar for many locals in West Allis and now we are proud to have our Wisconsin roots shine a little here in Poulsbo, too! Touches of home like our Milwaukee-style Bloody Mary, served with a pony of High Life, or with our little snuck-in Milwaukee decor around the bar.
We quickly felt at home here in North Kitsap and absolutely LOVE the amazing community of people and local businesses.

And to save the best for last, we are so proud and lucky to have the amazing staff that we do; past and present. We love our Kraken Krew and we know we couldn't do it without them. Both front of the house and back of the house work their butts off to make this place what it is.
